How to Manage Stress

How to Manage Stress

🌙 Don’t overwhelm yourself too much- if you know something is going to stress you out, don’t make that commitment! It’s okay to push yourself out of your comfort zone, but don’t constantly do that or you’ll stress yourself out. It’s all about balance!

🌙 Cut back on some responsibilities- What is one less thing you can take off your plate? What is one less thing you can give to someone else? For example, if you’re doing everything around the house, and dishes stress you out, ask your partner if they are able to take over that role. Or maybe meal prepping is stressing you out, so buy more pre-made food from the fresh aisle!

🌙 Stay on a routine- Consistency is key! Go to bed the same time, and wake up the same time. Have a daily schedule that you follow. If you’re bored with life, then switch some things up. If you’re overwhelmed with your routine, cut back on some things.

🌙 Find someone to talk to- whether that’s your partner, your therapist, or your best friend, having someone to vent to is SO important! Hopefully that person validates, listens, and let’s you get things off your mind without feeling guilty.

🌙 Exercise- Exercise consistently. Exercise helps with stress! Even if it’s just walking your dog- at least your moving your body! Just get moving. If you can’t make it to the gym, park extra far in the work parking lot, or take the stairs instead of the elevator.

🌙 Journal- When you’re feeling overwhelmed and stressed, write down all your feelings. The good and the bad. How are you feeling? Why are you feeling that way? What caused you to feel that way? What can you do to not feel this way and make the situation better?

🌙 Practice mindfulness- Always be aware of the moment. What’s around you? Notice the sunset. Notice the clouds. Look at your beautiful toddler sitting next to you. Enjoy their chubby little hands on your hand. Sink in moments.

🌙Lower the “noise”- Cut out the extra noise. Don’t have the tv on, cook dinner, talk to your mom on the phone, all while you’re trying to check your social media. That gets too crazy! Turn off your phone, turn off the tv, and just focus on cooking.

🌙 Slow down- Stop being in a rush! Don’t drive fast and cut people off. Don’t stride through the grocery store, and run out the door. Allow yourself enough time to get to places. Enjoy your day. Walk slower, cook slower, talk slower, eat slower, just enjoy each moment.

🌙 Nourish your body with clean food- Eat clean. Skip the processed junk, and skip the soda. Limit the caffeine, limit the coffee, and limit or cut out the alcohol.

🌙 Ask for help when you need it- DON’T be afraid to ask for help!

🌙 Get enough sleep- Instead of setting your alarm to get up, try setting your alarm to go to bed!

🌙 Manage social media time- The average person spends 2 1/2 hours on social media! Yikes. Can you imagine how much more time you would have if you spent less time on social media? What works for me is I give myself 10 minutes each day to be on social media then I have to sign out or undownload it. Then the next day I sign in or download it again. That’s how I keep myself in check! Social media isn’t bad, it’s just how you balance the time you’re on it, and what accounts you follow. Unfollow the accounts that make you feel terrible.

🌙Connect with others in PERSON- I know this is hard sometimes, but we all need IN-PERSON communication. Go to lunch with a friend, or go on a special date night with your partner. Put down your phone! Don’t forget about those REAL IN-PERSON connections!
