Wellness Tips for Thanksgiving
Wellness Tips for Thanksgiving
š¦ Keep moving- Do a turkey trot, or just a 5 minute walk outside with the family. Go outside & play games with the younger cousins or nieces & nephews! Keeping your body moving will help you have more energy & feel better.
š¦Set & keep your boundaries- If you just had a miscarriage & your great aunt wants to talk about it or your uncle makes comments like, āWhy are you not married yet?ā and you donāt want to talk about these topicsā¦ just kindly change the subject or politely say you are not comfortable talking about it. If you have a very toxic, negative aunt that criticizes you and cuts you down every time youāre with herā¦ you can say hi, but try not to sit by her & donāt find ways to go over & make conversation. You get the point- make your boundaries & keep them this Thanksgiving!
š¦Share your gratitude- List things youāre grateful for. If you are grateful for what you have, then what you have, is enough. As you focus on gratitude, you will be happier, be more optimistic, have less anxiety, & enjoy the present moment more.
š¦Skip the food guilt- Itās Thanksgiving! Be wise & listen to your body, but donāt beat yourself up for what you eat or donāt eat, or how much do or donāt eat. You can say no to food! I doubt your grandma will be watching to see if you take that green bean casserole you really hate! If it doesnāt sit well or youāre full, politely say something like, āNo, Iām really okay, thank you for offering. That looks delicious, but Iām full right now.ā Donāt make yourself sick just because you donāt want to hurt someoneās feelings. On the other hand, if you eat and eat, and are beating yourself up for eating too much. Donāt! Realize this is one day and one day wonāt kill your progress in the long-run!
š¦Donāt skip breakfast! I know what youāre thinking: āIām going to save room.ā Imagine how hungry youāll be and how much youāll binge once your sister brings out that appetizer tray! Youāll most likely be so hungry youāll eat too much & too fast, feeling sick later. Plus if you donāt eat all day, your blood sugar will dip & youāll most likely be hangry & cranky (Buro, 2021). So please! Eat a balanced breakfast on Thanksgiving! Youāre less likely to eat more than you should & youāll have less cravings if you eat a balanced breakfast.
š¦Drink a glass of water before your meal! Youāll eat less if you do this! Youāll get full faster if you drink water throughout the day. Limit or avoid sugary drinks & alcohol.
š¦Take your time chewing & eating! This will help you eat slower and will help your digestion. The more you chew, the less your digestive system has to do. The slower & more mindful you eat, the less food youāll eat.
