Wellness Tips for Thanksgiving

Wellness Tips for Thanksgiving

šŸ¦ƒ Keep moving- Do a turkey trot, or just a 5 minute walk outside with the family. Go outside & play games with the younger cousins or nieces & nephews! Keeping your body moving will help you have more energy & feel better.

šŸ¦ƒSet & keep your boundaries- If you just had a miscarriage & your great aunt wants to talk about it or your uncle makes comments like, ā€œWhy are you not married yet?ā€ and you donā€™t want to talk about these topicsā€¦ just kindly change the subject or politely say you are not comfortable talking about it. If you have a very toxic, negative aunt that criticizes you and cuts you down every time youā€™re with herā€¦ you can say hi, but try not to sit by her & donā€™t find ways to go over & make conversation. You get the point- make your boundaries & keep them this Thanksgiving!

šŸ¦ƒShare your gratitude- List things youā€™re grateful for. If you are grateful for what you have, then what you have, is enough. As you focus on gratitude, you will be happier, be more optimistic, have less anxiety, & enjoy the present moment more.

šŸ¦ƒSkip the food guilt- Itā€™s Thanksgiving! Be wise & listen to your body, but donā€™t beat yourself up for what you eat or donā€™t eat, or how much do or donā€™t eat. You can say no to food! I doubt your grandma will be watching to see if you take that green bean casserole you really hate! If it doesnā€™t sit well or youā€™re full, politely say something like, ā€œNo, Iā€™m really okay, thank you for offering. That looks delicious, but Iā€™m full right now.ā€ Donā€™t make yourself sick just because you donā€™t want to hurt someoneā€™s feelings. On the other hand, if you eat and eat, and are beating yourself up for eating too much. Donā€™t! Realize this is one day and one day wonā€™t kill your progress in the long-run!

šŸ¦ƒDonā€™t skip breakfast! I know what youā€™re thinking: ā€œIā€™m going to save room.ā€ Imagine how hungry youā€™ll be and how much youā€™ll binge once your sister brings out that appetizer tray! Youā€™ll most likely be so hungry youā€™ll eat too much & too fast, feeling sick later. Plus if you donā€™t eat all day, your blood sugar will dip & youā€™ll most likely be hangry & cranky (Buro, 2021). So please! Eat a balanced breakfast on Thanksgiving! Youā€™re less likely to eat more than you should & youā€™ll have less cravings if you eat a balanced breakfast.

šŸ¦ƒDrink a glass of water before your meal! Youā€™ll eat less if you do this! Youā€™ll get full faster if you drink water throughout the day. Limit or avoid sugary drinks & alcohol.

šŸ¦ƒTake your time chewing & eating! This will help you eat slower and will help your digestion. The more you chew, the less your digestive system has to do. The slower & more mindful you eat, the less food youā€™ll eat.
